San Mateo County Library cardholders now have access to downloadable music, an online music collection that offers free downloads for a wide variety of music. There is no special software required, and there are no DRM (digital rights management) restrictions. Once a song is downloaded, it's yours to keep.
How much music is available?
It changes daily. But it's safe to say that there are thousands of artists, tens of thousands of albums, and more than 7 million songs. The downloadable music,service has over 100 genres of music and is rich in many of them. The content is based upon a license with Sony Music Entertainment, owner of 54 different music labels. Many current popular songs are included as well.
How many songs can I download?
You may download up to three songs per week, using a San Mateo County library card (card number beginning with 29041...). Your counter will be set back to zero every Monday at 12:01am EST. After that time you can download three more songs over the following week.
Can I transfer the music to any computer or burn it to a CD?
Yes. These files are downloaded as MP3 files which are compatible with any MP3 Player or device. You can transfer the music to any computer, MP3 player or even burn it to a CD. Copyright laws apply for all music downloaded.

How do I search for Downloadable music?
Go to the San Mateo County Library Downloadable Music site here. On the site, you can browse music genres by selecting the Browse A-Z tab at the top of the screen, or you can search for specific artists and songs using the search box with the magnifying glass.
