Garden Compost Workshops

 

Photo of compost by normanackSan Mateo County Library is partnering with RecycleWorks to offer composting workshops throughout the summer. Workshops cover backyard composting, worm composting, organic gardening techniques, and are taught by certified master composters.

Where to Go?

Library workshops will take place at the Pacifica Sanchez Library, Half Moon Bay Library, and the San Carlos Library. Visit RecycleWorks for a complete list of workshops.

If you can’t make it to a workshop the library offers a variety of books and resources to help with your composting needs.

Book-Help

The Compost Specialist: The Essential Guide to Creating and Using Garden Compost, and Using Potting and Seed Composts by David Squire ofers advice on buying or making a compost bin, as well as how to choose suitable materials for composting and mulching.

The Complete Compost Gardening Guide: Banner Batches, Grow Heaps, Comforter Compost, and Other Amazing Techniques for Saving Time and Money, and Producing the Most Flavorful, Nutritious Vegetables Ever by Barbara Pleasant & Deborah L. Martin provides detailed information for all levels of composters.

Worms Eat My Garbage  by Mary Appelhof is the best resource on worm composting.

Anytime, Online Help

Gardening, Landscape and Horticulture Collection Online Database
This database contains full-text articles from over 50 magazines and journals including Sunset and Mother Earth News. You can locate information about building your own compost bins and how to use compost in your garden. If you want to be extreme there is information on compost toilets.
