Series Madness

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg LarssonI have to admit that I have been swept up by the best-selling mystery series by Steig Larsson. I plowed through The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo in record time. I drove to Portola Valley Library (well out of my way) to pick up a copy of The Girl Who Played With Fire because I could not wait for my hold on the book to come in. A friend got a copy of the third (unreleased in the US at the time) book in the series, The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest, from her sister in Europe; I gave her homemade cookies in return for being bumped to the head of the line of people waiting to borrow it.

Book-to-Film

I had also been watching Internet Movie Database for information on the movie, or rather movies. The Swedish film version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (or  Män som hatar kvinnor) came out in Europe last year and only just made it to the US in limited release. An English-language remake is already in the works in Hollywood.

I was able to catch the Swedish movie in San Francisco and further feed my obsession. While it's no great work of cinema, they did a good job of shrinking Larsson's nearly 600 page book into a fast-paced mystery.

Noomi Rapace does well as Lisbeth Salander, which doesn't seem like an easy part to play; I'm wondering who they'll get to play her and Blomkvist in the American version. Any ideas?
