San Mateo County Library offers
free, confidential adult literacy tutoring .

If you or someone you know would like to improve their reading and writing skills, the Library offers free assistance.

If you would like to help someone improve his or her skills, the
Library is always looking for volunteers.


The San Mateo County READS office is located on the 2nd floor at 2415 University Avenue, East Palo Alto with a satellite office at the Half Moon Bay Library, 620 Correas, Half Moon Bay. Tutoring services are available in all of our San Mateo County Library communities.

Learners must be 16 years old or older and English speaking. Sign up to become a learner.

Volunteers must be 18 years old or older and are trained in tutoring techniques and are provided instructional material. Sign up to become a tutor.

Learners and volunteers are matched and typically meet 2 to 3 hours a week to work on the student's literacy goals. A minimum of 6 months committment is requested of both learners and volunteers.
All services are free and confidential.
