Librarians Index to the Internet
[lii] is an annotated subject directory
of more than 11,000 Internet
resources evaluated by librarians.
lii began in the Bay Area, thus one of
its strengths is its local focus.
How lii is organized
-
Subject Index
The focus of lii’s
homepage is its subject index.
Broad topics are subdivided into
narrower topics. Clicking on
these underlined topics will lead
you to more specific terms. For
instance, if you are looking for
restaurants, you would first click
on Sports, Recreation and
Travel, then Travel, and finally
Restaurants.
- Search Box
While beginners
are encouraged to explore the
topics in the directory, a search
box is provided for keyword
searching. The search box is at
the top of the page.

lii Search Tips
- Think broadly Specific keywords
work in large search engines but not in
small subject directories.
For instance, for chocolate chip
cookies try recipes or baking;
instead of measles, try diseases.
- Try truncation You can
capture
your keyword and all its variant
endings by typing the first four to six
letters followed by an asterisk (*).
For instance, for government try
govern*.
- Keep it short lii only shows you
records that contain all of your
keywords.
If you use crockpot chili, the
results will be zero because there
are no records including both words;
try crockpot or chili.
