San Mateo County Libraries Travel Series Continues

The San Mateo County Library Travel Series continues through March with travel programs ranging from lectures on the ten cities that changed the course of history, to slide shows on Africa and India, to travel memoirs both humorous and poignant. Pick up a passport to these events at the library. Get your passport stamped every time that you attend a different event. Once you collect three stamps you’ll be entitled to a prize. There’s still time to see:

Maxine Rose Schur Reading from Places in Time: Reflections on a Journey
Schur set out to see the world. With high spirits and little money, the author traveled not only far geographically, but emotionally, toward the hearts of others. She faced the violent grief of a Mexican sheriff, celebrated a wild elopement in Turkey and was initiated into a mysterious daily ritual with an Iranian forest ranger. Looking back, she tempers her youthful encounters with mid-life wisdom, capturing the spirit of those she met, and evoking cherished places in time. Places in Time was voted 2006 Best Travel Book of the Year by the North American Travel Journalists Association. A book-signing will follow Schur’s presentation.

Friday, March 7 at 7:30 PM – Pacifica-Sharp Park Library

Into the Wild – Compare the Book to the Movie
The book by Jon Krakauer was on the New York Times Best Seller List for more than two years. Critics have called the film, directed by Sean Penn, breathtaking. Follow Christopher as he lights out for Alaska territory with only a handful of books about survival and edible wild plants. Both book and film chronicle an unforgettable, ill-fated adventure.

Wednesday, March 5 at 7:00 PM – Belmont Library (book discussion)
Friday, March 14 at 7:00 PM – Belmont Library (film showing)
