Research your Family History @ the Library

The Library’s two newest online resources are Ancestry Library Edition and HeritageQuest - the top two genealogy resources on the market.
  • Ancestry Library Edition is a genealogy research tool with access to a wide range of unique resources for genealogical and historical research. With more than 4 billion names in over 3,400 databases, Ancestry Library Edition includes census and military records; court, land, and probate records; vital and church records; directories; passenger lists, and more. Similar information is also available for the United Kingdom, Canada and some European countries.
  • HeritageQuest includes the U.S. Census from 1790--1930, genealogy and thousands of books and family histories with articles and images, Revolutionary War and land grant information. HeritageQuest is a valuable tool for middle school students to adults to research family history or local history projects.

You can access both of these fabulous resources from inside any of the twelve San Mateo County Library branches. Please note, though, that almost all of our other many online resources are available from home too, via our website, smcl.org. Contract limitations require that Ancestry Library Edition and HeritageQuest only be available inside our libraries.

For more information on these wonderful resources, or any of our other online resources, please contact a library staff member by phone, email, or chat. Our mission is to help you find information — and giving you tours of these spectacular free resources is part of that mission. We’ll see you at the Library!
