Belmont Library Celebrates Its Second Anniversary

On April 29, 2006 the newly-built Belmont Library opened its doors to 5000 excited community members!  Visitors marveled at the light, the sense of nature, the sense of embracing the park setting, the spaces, the furnishings, the technology, the welcoming bookstore feel!  Since that day, the Library has continued to vigorously thrive!    In the 2006/2007 fiscal year, the Library circulated almost 546,000 items, 294,632 people visited, and 15,173 questions were answered.  Hundreds of new users were registered each month with 67% of the Library's resident population now having library cards.

Exciting activities are happening at the new Library with Homework Center help and extended programs, youth activities, teen activities, and adult programs.  Customers can participate in an Internet class, go to author programs, get homework help, watch a film/discuss the book, engage in a travel program series, and then just enjoy the Fireplace Area with its selection of periodicals.  The Library logged more than 3500 volunteer hours in that same fiscal year, a testament to the community's interest and support of the Library.  The Friends of the Library actively operate the "Friends' Store", as well as the Book Nook in Twin Pines Park.  Their hard work has supported additional amenities like outdoor furniture, collection additions, various equipment, and, of course, the salary of our Homework Center Tutor/Supervisor.

The new Belmont Library underscores the adage: "Build it and they will come!"  It fulfills the longtime promise of a beautiful city facility in a lovely park setting-innovative, customer-friendly, and forward-looking.  Happy Second Anniversary Belmont Library!
