FAQs for the Portola Valley Library Closure

Q.  When did the Library close?
A.  Our last day of business was August 19, 2008 in the current Corte Madera School.

Q. When will my materials be due?
A. Your materials checked out from the Portola Valley Library will be due on September 22, 2008.

Q. Where can I return my materials after the Library closes.?
 A. You can return your materials to any Peninsula System Library (list and directions are available at smcl.org; or plsinfo.org). The closest Library is the Woodside Library at 3140 Woodside Road.  You
may also return them to the Menlo Park Library at 800 Alma, Menlo Park.

Q. Can I renew items?
A. You may renew items by going online at smcl.org (your library account), or calling 650-638-0399.

Q. Can I still place holds on books?
A. Yes.  However, after August 9, 2008, pick-up of holds will be at the Woodside Library at 3140 Woodside Rd.  You will not be able to request pick-up at Portola Valley. If you are placing a hold online, please select the Woodside Library or the most convenient Library for you.

Q. Will storytimes continue during this closure period?
A. No. We will not be able to provide storytime. However, you are welcome to attend storytime at the Woodside Library and/or the Atherton Library and the Menlo Park Library.  Dates and times can be found at smcl.org (click on individual libraries) and menloparklibrary.org.

Q. Tell me about the new Portola Valley Library.
A. The new Library is part of the Portola Valley Town Center. This 6, 284 sq. ft. Library fulfills the promise of a state of the art “green project”, along with the Portola Valley Town Center where it resides. Amongst beautiful Redwood trees and a flowing creek, the Library facility will feature an innovative service model utilizing the latest innovative technologies for checkout, highlighting the “one point of service desk” , offering 16 public computers, both hard-wired and Wifi, providing a “Learning Center (complete with laptop computers), and featuring a marketplace of new materials, both book, book on CD, and DVD. The children’s area will spotlight toddler-appropriate computers and software.  Overall, the collection will engage customers with its priority jacket face-out display begging children, teens, and adults to handle the items more and check them out themselves.  Portola Valley Library users will find the comfort of a larger space with nature-oriented, “green”, furnishings, a bookstore-feel, and a sense of light and the outside environment – all of which holds the promise of a community destination place to look to with pride.

 The new Portola Valley Library’s address is 765 Portola Valley Road, telephone: 650-851-0560.  The new Library will open on Monday, September 15, 2008.

Monday through Thursday 12-7 pm
Friday, Saturday 12-5 pm
Closed Sundays
