Mission The Pacifica Library Foundation is dedicated to ensuring
a financially secure future for library services for all citizens
of our community through leadership, fund development and public
support.
Need
For several years, Pacifica’s two libraries have been
the focus of community wide discussions on the issues of consolidation,
a new centralized library, decreased public funding, and decreased
hours of service. At the same time, our libraries remain an
invaluable resource to all Pacificans for learning, professional
development and personal enjoyment. A 2000 study, in fact, confirmed
that a city the size of Pacifica, in fact, needs MORE library
services and space – not LESS.
Purpose
The Pacifica Library Foundation, established in 2003, seeks
solutions to the challenges facing our local libraries. The
Foundation will mobilize funding support for Pacifica library
services from all quarters of the community – foundations,
corporations, and individuals; effectively manage these contributions
to benefit the library; and communicate to the community the
funding and resource needs of the library.
Structure
A volunteer Foundation Board (a working Board) has met and developed
a strategic plan for the Foundation, a governance structure,
and operational plans for fund raising, community outreach and
volunteer development. The Foundation has 501c3 nonprofit status
from the State of California.
Grassroots
support
Though the Foundation will seek grants and corporate contributions,
we anticipate that as much as 80% of our annual fund raising
goal will be met through individual contributions – from
people just like YOU – the library users and lovers in
our coastside community, and other generous individuals who
support libraries in San Mateo County!
You can help
The library needs your time and talents and the Pacifica Library
Foundation needs volunteers to fill many roles; to help us fundraise,
to reach out to the community, to establish our systems –
and more. We also need donors and cash contributions so that
library services in Pacifica will not be cut in 2004. Call 650.355.5196
