Top 5 by Doug Nolan

Children's performer Doug Nolan.Talented Local Performer

Many San Mateo County Library branches had the pleasure of hosting Doug Nolan of Rock Steady Juggling this summer. His Eco-Tainment! program was a fast-paced and exciting blend of juggling, comedy, music, magic, and environmental education.

Doug is a founding member of The Sippy Cups, an amazing local children’s pop-rock band. Their theatrical performances have gained them a huge following across the Bay Area and U.S. Check out their CDs, including The Time Machine, Electric Story-land!, and Kids Rock for Peas.

Doug’s Top 5

Doug, a local resident, frequently visits the Half Moon Bay Library with his family. I asked him to give us a Top 5 List of items he recommends folks check out from San Mateo County Libraries. He enthusiastically gave us not only an adult Top 5 List, but also a Top 5 List for Families, available on the kids blog.

1. Books: Here are the last 2 books that I've read and enjoyed in the last couple of weeks: Let the Great World Spin by Collum McCann and Little Children by Tom Perrotta.

2. Movies: Impossible to narrow down! So again here are some movies that I recently enjoyed: Milk, The Godfather, The Hurt Locker, and Raging Bull.

3. Music: Michael Franti, Liz Phair, The Beastie Boys, Ben Harper, and Son Volt.

4. Plays: Harold Pinter, David Mamet, and Moliere. I have an MFA in acting from the American Conservatory Theater. My favorite local companies are: SF Mime Troupe, The Cutting Ball, Berkeley Rep, and A.C.T..

5. TV: The Wire, The Sopranos, and Deadwood. We don't own a TV, so we get our favorite HBO series from the Library!

Rock Steady Juggling – Live!

Be sure to check out Doug and Rock Steady Juggling live, in person. The show is phenomenal! Visit the Rock Steady Juggling Calendar of Events to find out where their next show will be!

Author Bio:

Karen Choy is the temporary branch manager of the Brisbane and Atherton Libraries. She is highly impressed by Doug's ability to juggle a sword, Slinky, and bowling ball -- all at the same time!

Love it!

What a great idea for a blog, and what a good library patron Doug is! :-)
