Historical Epics
During the years 1943 and 1944 during the height of World War II, two very different nations produced two very different epic films.
Soviet Union Epic
In the Soviet Union, a two part spectacular Ivan the Terrible was directed by Eisenstein with a soundtrack by Prokofiev. What a combination! They had worked together earlier on Alexander Nevsky.
United Kingdom Offering
Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom the spirit of Shakespeare was invoked in a production of Henry V starring Laurence Olivier with a soundtrack by William Walton.
Compare With Today's Epic
Compare these films with the contemporary Elizabeth, the Golden Age, or better yet, pop up some popcorn and enjoy all of them.
