Listen Up April 2011
I HEART DURAN DURAN!
A couple of months ago I blogged about my girlhood musical heroes Duran Duran. Well, much to my delight I find that they are still making music. Their newest release is titled All You Need Is Now. I’m pleased to say that they have managed to keep their signature sound without sounding dated. Diehard fans will not be disappointed with this new album. It’s all here, the quirky lyrics, Simon Le Bon’s vocals are still strong, and John Taylor’s signature bass lines are present.
OH THE GLORY DAYS…
“Safe (In The Heat Of The Moment)” is a great disco-funk track, listen for the cowbell! Ana Matronic of Scissor Sisters is featured on vocals and rap that is very reminiscent of 80’s Blondie. Check out a live performance from this year’s Coachella Music and Arts Festival.
The tracks “Girl Panic!” and “Runway Runaway” are almost throwbacks to the good ol’ days when Duran Duran were experiencing their heyday back in the ‘80s. I read somewhere that the band is touting this album as the Son of Rio. I can’t say that I agree . . .more like the cousin of Rio. (For those of you who don’t know, Rio is Duran Duran’s second and probably most well known album.)
Evie D. is a Durannie at heart. She got to be a giddy 15 year-old all over again when she was lucky enough to see Duran Duran perform before a sold out crowd at the Fillmore earlier this month.
