Evie’s Music Picks of 2010
2010 was a great year for music. Here are just a couple of my favorites...
The Walkmen have been around for about ten years. The first time I heard their music was when it was used for a car television commercial. I’ve been hooked ever since. Their latest release is titled Lisbon. It’s got that classic Walkmen sound that I love, wise beyond their years and a little rough around the edges. If you like what you hear, make sure to check out their back catalogue--available at SMCL. I particularly recommend Bows & Arrows and You & Me.
I can’t say enough about Of Montreal’s 2010 release False Priest. This album is chock full of great songs and even greater lyrics like, “you look like a playground to me, playa!” "Famine Affair" is quite possibly one of the best break up songs I’ve ever heard. I especially liked the songs with guest vocals by Solange Knowles and Janelle Monáe respectively. All around a fun album to dance and sing along to!
Worth Honorably Mentioning . . .
The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
Sir Lucious Left Foot by Big Boi
This Is Happening by LCD Soundsystem
High Violet by The National
New Amerykah, Part Two, Return of the Ankh by Erykah Badu
Brothers by The Black Keys
The Lady Killer by Cee-Lo Green
Evie D. is currently not obsessing about anything in particular.
