Just in Time for Midterms!
A Stiff Drink
Don't Vote: It Just Encourages the Bastards proves conclusively (wink) that a scotch party will always be way more fun than a tea party. Along with humor, O'Rourke also reveals his thoughts concerning such things as "negative freedoms" (defined as a good thing found in our Bill of Rights) in contrast to "positive freedoms" (defined as suspect things found in such places as the U.N. Declaration of Human Rights and even spuriously slipped into one of FDR's "Four Freedoms"--aided and abetted by Norman Rockwell).
The Man Has Range
Since his brilliant stint as a writer for the National Lampoon, O'Rourke has gone on to author numerous books ranging from self-help (A Bachelor's Home Companion: A Practical Guide to Keeping House Like a Pig) to economics (On the Wealth of Nations, a volume whose title bears an uncanny resemblence to one written by Adam Smith--but with a lightness and sense of humor). For those who would rather hear P.J. O'Rourke than read him, I would suggest listening to Peace Kills: America's Fun New Imperialism.
Spirited Opinions are Fun, But So Is Voting
To keep up on all things O'Rourke, you can visit his site online. Even though I've long been an O'Rourke fan, I'll still be looking for you at the polls this Tuesday.
