Teachers

The San Mateo County Libraries offer a number of services to assist teachers and parents involved in homeschooling.

Teacher Library Cards

San Mateo County Library's special "Teacher Cards" are available for classroom use for teachers, home school educators or day care providers who live or work in our service area (see list of participating libraries).

Benefits include:

  • No fines or hold fees on San Mateo County Library materials (you will be responsible for lost or damaged items).

  • Longer loans on materials used in the classroom (excludes holiday and high demand material).

  • Teacher Card library records to help keep classroom use materials separate from personal use items.

Teacher Services

Expert library professionals can:

  • Recommend teacher resources to help with lesson planning.

  • Give personalized library tours highlighting specific assignment areas.

  • Demonstrate the library's extensive online resources (accessed from home or school).

  • Visit your class to read stories, promote books, provide library resource instruction and sign-up students for library cards.

Curriculum Support

If you need materials for your students on a particular topic, we can help.

With advance notice the library can:

  • Place topic materials aside for pick-up.

  • Provide knowledgeable library staff to help students find assignment information.

For assignment requests, notify your Youth Services Librarian by filling out the Assignment Alert Form (PDF). Or you may phone, email, fax, or visit the library. Please provide your name, school and grade; the number of students; complete assignment details; the start and end date; and how to contact you.
