Getting Started in Digital Scrapbooking

Photo of trip tp Maui by DeAnnDo you store digital photos on your camera or computer for months or years, without printing them out? Does the thought of printing photos and creating a scrapbook or photo album make you break out into a cold sweat? Try digital scrapbooks! It’s fairly quick and easy.

Where to Begin?

I have seen or used a number of photo storage and sharing web sites, and many of them also allow you to upload photos and create a digital scrapbook. Your creation can then be printed out and mailed to you and/or copied as gifts!

Many of the sites also offer coupons and deals during the holiday season and throughout the year. You can browse the sites for free to gather design ideas--and even upload photos and experiment with layouts to view a finished product. You will need to create an account online to use many features on these sites, and if you want to do more than explore and borrow ideas, there will be a cost to purchase the created scrapbooks.

Free Library Resources

Here are some titles in the library system on creating digital scrapbooks.

Simplicity Online

Shutterfly Photos of family by DeAnnmembership is free, and you can often get free prints just by signing up. This can be a good place to begin as a novice, as the site is fairly user friendly. And they often have discounts, sometime even a free photobook (you pay for the shipping). They have an option to take the “simple path” and have your photos arranged chronologically (over 20 styles with preset backgrounds and layouts).

Or you can build your own, and arrange photos and text in a variety of layouts. There are 5 sizes to choose from (5x7 to 12x12).

If you’re a member of Costco, you can log onto their photo center and explore your options. Choices include a padded leather cover, or laminated photo cover. You can select photos that you upload to online “albums”, and have an album created automatically by selecting “autofill”, or customize it yourself. It’s so easy, and you have the option to pick up the album at your local Costco, or have it mailed to you directly.
