Quilter's Trunk Show

QuiltDuring March the Half Moon Bay Library offered up its walls for joint use by the quilting group Piecemakers By-The-Sea and the Pacifica Quilters. On March 19th we held an old fashioned trunk show. These classic trunk shows are a throwback to those good ole' days before plastic storage bins, when families kept their quilts and blankets in cedar trunks.

Sharing Stories and Techniques

Attendees enjoyed an evening of swapping stories about the history and creation of the quilts on display. Over 55 quilts were given to charities after the show. Some of these quilts were sent to orphanages in Haiti. The remaining quilts were sent to the San Mateo County Mobile Health Care Unit (they work with the coast side community).

Friends of the Half Moon Bay Library Benefit Raffle

On March 19th, we also held a drawing to benefit the Friends of the Half Moon Bay Library. The winner received the beautiful quilt that was on display behind the circulation desk at the branch. It was made by our own staff member and very gifted quilter, Ruth T. and quilted by the Pacifica Quilters. The cost of tickets for the drawing were $1.00 each or six for $5.00.

QuiltIf you missed out on all the fun and festivities, don't worry. We have lots of exciting things planned for the coming months. In the meantime, try the following quilting novels.

Quilting Fiction

Add a little romance to your quilting by reading The True Love Quilting Club by Lori Wilde or go on location with The Aloha Quilt: An Elm Creek Quilts Novel by Jennifer Chiaverini. A Thread of Truth by Marie Bostwick is another quilt-centric read.

Author Bio:

Ruth T. has worked with the Half Moon Bay Library for 20 years. In her spare time she enjoys quilting and charity work.
