Children can improve their reading skills by reading to a trained therapy dog. Sign up in advance and join the fun.

Have a reluctant reader? Studies show children who are reluctant to read in front of peers are much less anxious with an animal present. Children don't perceive animals to be judgmental; mere animal presence helps them become more confident readers. Pet Assisted Therapy teams and their handlers are from the Peninsula Humane Society & the SPCA’s Paws for Tales program.

A Morning With Author Sonya Lea

Event Type: Author Program
Date:
Saturday, 07/11/2015 at 10:30 AM
Library: Belmont
Ages: Adults
Description:

Join us for a visit with author Sonya Lea. Ms. Lea will be discussing her memoir Wondering Who You Are. In the twenty-third year of their marriage, Sonya Lea's husband, Richard, went in for surgery to treat a rare appendix cancer. When he came out, he had no recollection of their life together: how the met, their wedding day, the births of their two children. With radical candor and honesty, Sonya Lea has written a memoir that is both a powerful look at perseverance in the face of trauma, and a surprising exploration into what lies beyond our fragile identities.

Pet Assisted Therapy teams and their handlers are from the Peninsula Humane Society & the SPCA’s Paws for Tales program.
