High Style: The Brooklyn Museum Costume Collection Docent Lecture

This lecture explores the evolution of fashion from 1910 to 1980 as shown by an exhibit at the Legion of Honor, March 14 – July 19.  These fashions worn by American women reflect the nation’s tastes and transformations over the course of the 20th century. Featured are more than 60 costumes, 30 costume accessories, and related fashion sketches from the Brooklyn Museum Costume Collection.

Spanning more than 400 years of artistic production, this exhibition at deYoung Museum—March 7 to May 31--includes works by many of the greatest painters from the Renaissance to the early 20th century. Some, including Sandro Boticelli’s Virgin Adoring the Sleeping Christ Child (ca. 1490), have never before been seen in the United States. This docent lecture will review works from the three institutions that form the National Galleries of Scotland.
