Description:

Children can improve their reading skills by reading to a trained therapy dog. Sign up in advance and join the fun.

Have a reluctant reader? Studies show children who are reluctant to read in front of peers are much less anxious with an animal present. Children don't perceive animals to be judgmental; mere animal presence helps them become more confident readers. Pet Assisted Therapy teams and their handlers are from the Peninsula Humane Society & the SPCA’s Paws for Tales program.

Small Dog Adoption Day

Looking for love in all the wrong places? The right place will be San Carlos Library when Pets In Need will sponsor a small dog adoption fair in the courtyard. If you don't find the love of your life at the library, you can scan the photos of other canine companions waiting for you at their shelter at 871 5th Avenue in Redwood City, which will be open until 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Description:

This two week camp will introduce 3rd-5th graders to basic programming skills by engaging them in mini coding projects using Snap!, a drag-and-drop programming interface. Students will learn the fundamental concepts of programming, and bring home a set of projects and games they have worked on. This course will be taught by Ramya and Cara, both graduates of acclaimed computer science education program Girls Who Code. For grades 3-5. Program takes place from 1-4pm.

Please note: participants are requested to be present for all two weeks.

Explore Together: Nature Studio

In the Nature Studio, children and their important adults will notice, wonder and investigate nature’s beauty. Use real tools to dissect a local plant. Conduct close observations of seeds, leaves and flowers. Young naturalists will discover the rich variety of interesting patterns, textures and shapes found in nature. Our hands-on, early science and math activities offer opportunities to compare, sort and classify, and identify and extend patterns. Recommended for ages 2-4.
