Come take a quick trip to Asia, where the ancient techniques of making cloth and dyeing is still practiced today in traditional dye houses and even backyards! We'll weave together history, science, math, and folk art, using the world's most authentic resist-dyeing method to make your own decorative piece to take home and hang.

Elise Juska will be reading from her new novel, The Blessings. Her fiction and nonfiction have appeared in Ploughshares, the Gettysburg Review, the Missouri Review, Good Housekeeping, the Hudson Review, Harvard Review, and many other publications. She is the recipient of the Alice Hoffman Prize for Fiction from Ploughshares and her work has been cited in The Best American Short Stories.

Dave Rocha's Hardbop Quartet

Description:

Dave Rocha has performed with his group for more than 20 years. He's played in several major cities, including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. His band plays a mix of jazz standards (by Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane, etc.) “pop” tunes (Cole Porter, Gershwin and Jobim) and original compositions. Dave Rocha on trumpet, Keith Saunders on keyboard, Sam Bevan on bass, and Peppe Merrola on drums.
