The Bach Cello Suites: A Miracle on Four Strings

Date:
Wednesday, 02/20/13 at 7:00 pm
Library: Brisbane

Description:

Johann Sebastian Bach's six cello suites are among the greatest masterpieces for the instrument, though their origins and function remain somewhat of a mystery. Written around 1720, they were largely unknown until they were championed by the cellist Pablo Casals at the beginning of the 20th century.

Find out more about these timeless works at this free lecture by Bruce Lamott, director of the Philharmonia Chorale and professor of music history at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Sponsored by Live at Mission Blue and the City of Brisbane.
