Annual Poetry Contest Reception/ReadingEvent Type: Portola ValleyDate: Monday, 05/20/13 at 6:30 pm Library: Portola Valley Ages: All Ages Description: The Poetry Reading and Reception will be held at the Town Community Hall for the Annual Portola Valley Poetry Contest. The contest is open to all Kindergarten through 12th grade children enrolled in a Portola Valley School, as well as Portola Valley resident children who attend schools elsewhere. Submissions will be accepted until May 1 at 5pm and materials have been distributed to local area schools. Applications are also available in the library. The Poetry Contest and Reception are generously funded by the Friends of the Portola Valley Library. |

Little Chefs: Cooking Fun for ChildrenEvent Type: Portola ValleyDate: Thursday, 06/27/13 at 10:00 am Library: Portola Valley Ages: Preschoolers (3-5 years) Description: Chop, stir, spread, and measure! Little chefs learn the basics of food prep and create delicious masterpieces of their own. Jeni Clancy, from Parents Place, has an engaging style and a great knack for teaching parents, other caregivers and children how cooking can be a fun, participatory, yummy and healthy experience. On the menu for today – Granola and Yogurt Smoothie Parfaits! Adjustments can be made in the menu for children with food allergies. Siblings are welcome. Come cook with us! Space is limited, registration is mandatory. |

An examination of the Impressionists’ engagement with boating as both pastime and artistic subject is at the heart of the exhibition. |

In The Moment: Japanese Art Docent LectureEvent Type: Portola ValleyDate: Tuesday, 09/10/13 at 7:00 pm Library: Portola Valley Ages: Adults Description: This docent lecture explores the dynamic nature of art selection and display in traditional Japanese settings, where artworks are often temporarily presented in response to a special occasion or to reflect the change of seasons. Artwork from the Larry Ellison Collection at the Asian Art Museum is on exhibit from June 28 to September 22. |
