High Style: The Brooklyn Museum Costume Collection Docent Lecture

This docent lecture explores the evolution of fashion from 1910 to 1980 on exhibit at the Legion of Honor from March 14 – July 19. These fashions worn by American women reflect the nation’s tastes and transformations over the course of the 20th century. Featured are more than 60 stunning costumes, 30 costume accessories, and an array of related fashion sketches from the Brooklyn Museum Costume Collection.

There will be representatives from various language programs and a keynote talk by Elizabeth Weise.  For children there will be crafts, origami, and a Scholastic Book Fair. We are also doing a book swap. Bring a book and take a book. Organized and sponsored by the Friends of Mardarin Scholars and hosted by the Library.

Stargazing Night

Foster City Library and Foster City Park and Recreation will host a stargazing night for the summer. The College of San Mateo Astronomy Club will be here with their telescopes to show you the stars and planets in the sky of an early summer night. All ages are welcome. You are welcome to bring your own telescope. Bring a blanket and lawn chair and enjoy the night. Hot chocolate and tea will be provided. The event will take place at Leo Ryan Park (across the street from the library).

Where Education meets Entertainment, Didgeridoo Down Under is a show that uses the Australian instrument to pull together lessons about geography, nature, culture, diversity and ecology. The didgeridoo is a traditional instrument which has been played by Australia’s Aborigine population for at least 1500 years. This is a truly unique family program of fun and learning.
