Paws for Tales

Children can improve their reading skills by reading to a trained therapy dog. Sign up in advance and join the fun.

Have a reluctant reader? Studies show children who are reluctant to read in front of peers are much less anxious with an animal present. Children don't perceive animals to be judgmental; mere animal presence helps them become more confident readers. Pet Assisted Therapy teams and their handlers are from the Peninsula Humane Society & the SPCA’s Paws for Tales program.

Busy Bee Dogs

Busy Bee Dogs will present Trick Dog Act, a show that has been called a one-ring dog circus with over 45 different tricks and stunts! Watch in amazement as the individual personalities of the dog stars comes to life. Smiles, laughter, wild cheering, and silly comedy are common during each performance. Maybe you will be selected as a volunteer, but watch out as it can't be called a Trick Dog show unless the tricks are on you! For all ages.

Baby Bounce & Rhyme Time

Year-round stortimes for babies!

Combining singing, dancing, reading, and playing, Baby Bounce and Rhyme is a great way to connect with your young child. This program is specifically for babies ages 0-18 months (although older children are welcome too!). Using babies’ unique ways of learning about the world, we will explore familiar nursery rhymes as well as some new ones. There will also be a variety of board books available so that parents or caretakers can read to their baby.

In The Moment: Japanese Art Docent Lecture

This docent lecture explores the dynamic nature of art selection and display in traditional Japanese settings, where artworks are often temporarily presented in response to a special occasion or to reflect the change of seasons. Artwork from the Larry Ellison Collection at the Asian Art Museum is on exhibit from June 28 to September 22.
