Description: Join us for a visit from author Alan Fleishman. Alan will be reading from his new novel Lara's Shadow. This compelling piece of historical fiction tells the love story of a Jewish American Army officer and a German woman caught in post-Holocaust hate. Alan's multi-media presentation offers the historical background upon which the novel is based, with particular emphasis on the critical year of 1963. It explores the extent of German atonement for the Holocaust, and the limits of Jewish forgiveness.

J.M.W. Turner: Painting Set Free

Description: Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775-1851) was one of the greatest British artists of the 19th Century. This docent lecture will review his paintings on display at the DeYoung Museum from June 20-September 20. Turner’s paintings are revered for their spectacular effects of light and color, and have influenced generations of artists.
