But We've Always Done It That Way

Traditions or rituals associated with the holidays may no longer work, or they may bring on way too much stress to be worth it, or possibly there is loss associated with them. We have to give ourselves permission to combine, reinvent, simplify, or even let go of some traditions that do not provide us with quality holiday time.

'Tis the Season for Anxiety

Why do many people feel so much more stress at this time of year? One explanation by Ronald Nathan, PhD, clinical professor at Albany Medical College in New York is “when we think about the holidays, we dwell on the past and what went wrong, or we romanticize it and make it impossible to re-create,” he says.

He counsels people to carefully examine their thoughts and expectations, and not drive themselves crazy finding “the perfect gift” or planning “the perfect party.” Read the entire article for stress reduction tips.
