Here are my music picks for 2011, in no particular order:
Arctic Monkeys: Suck It and See
My favorite track is The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala. Honestly, Alex Turner could sing about nothing; I would still listen. Check out the video.
TV on the Radio: Nine Types of Light
Duran Duran: All You Need is Now
Raphael Saadiq: Stone Rollin’
On this album, Saadiq continues what he started on his last album. While it's an old school soul sound and a total throwback, it still sounds fresh today. Take a look at the video for the track Movin’ Down the Line.
Radiohead: The King of Limbs
Tapes ‘n Tapes: Outside
Los Amigos Invisibles: Not So Commercial
Dengue Fever: Cannibal Courtship
I had heard of Dengue Fever before. I even own an earlier release, but it wasn’t until I was hanging out with a friend (in Thailand, of all places) that I really took a listen to this band (that happens to be from Los Angeles). Here’s a trailer for their newest album.
Music Listomania
I love this time of, year when anyone and everyone compiles their annual lists of favorites. Here are some of my favorite lists:
- Pitchfork’s Top 50 Albums of 2011
- Stereogum’s Top 50 Albums of 2011
- NPR’s Best Music of 2011
- NME’s 50 Best Albums of 2011
