Children can improve their reading skills by reading to a trained therapy dog. Sign up in advance and join the fun.

Have a reluctant reader? Studies show children who are reluctant to read in front of peers are much less anxious with an animal present. Pet Assisted Therapy teams and their handlers are from the Peninsula Humane Society & the SPCA’s Paws for Tales program.

Children can improve their reading skills by reading to a trained therapy dog. Sign up in advance and join the fun.

Have a reluctant reader? Studies show children who are reluctant to read in front of peers are much less anxious with an animal present. Children don't perceive animals to be judgmental; mere animal presence helps them become more confident readers. Pet Assisted Therapy teams and their handlers are from the Peninsula Humane Society & the SPCA’s Paws for Tales program.

Realty Workshop: Rent or Buy?

Event Type: Workshop|Class
Date:
Wednesday, 05/20/2015 at 7:00 PM
Library: Millbrae
Ages: Adults
Description:

While the prevailing belief is that buying a home is always a better investment than renting an apartment, this traditional rule-of-thumb rarely reflects the true costs of home-ownership. Longtime Millbrae resident and Data Scientist, Rik Ganju, will share the fruits of countless hours combining over 100 years of home sales and rental rates data to provide a realistic, county-level assessment of the value of purchasing a home versus renting. This work is now being edited by David Crook, recently retired Wall Street Journal senior editor who authored two WSJ-branded books on home ownership.

Children can improve their reading skills by reading to a trained therapy dog.
