Computers and Software Frequently Asked Questions

You can now create, open and save files on the Library’s public computers. Files can be saved to a USB flash drive. The flash drive must be plug/play for Windows 7. USB drives are usually mapped to the E or F drive.

You can print documents and files. The first 4 black and white pages are free and $.10 per additional page. Color printing is also available for $.40 per page.

Staff are not able to provide instruction on these applications but can provide you with published tutorials and information on area classes and training.

What software is available?

Office 2013 Professional (Word, Excel, Access and Power Point, Publisher), Adobe Photoshop Elements, Internet Explorer, FireFox, and Chrome.

What storage devices can I use?
USB plug/play storage devices.

What drive will my USB devices connect to?
The computer will autodetect your device and open Windows Explorer.

How do I open a file?
Click File, then Open.  If using a USB device navigate to the appropriate drive.

Can I open email attachments in Word or other Office formats?


How do I save a file?
Click File, then Save. Use the default location. If saving to a USB drive navigate to the appropriate drive. Remember to save your work frequently.


Is there a time limit on my computer use?
Sessions are one hour or two hours depending on location.


Can I save files to the hard drive?
Yes as a temporary means.  You will need to delete them when you are done or they will delete when the computer is restarted.  To assist you a shortcut is provided to clear all data from the computer.


Will staff be able to assist me?
Staff provide minimal instruction on how to use the computer.


How much is the cost of printing?
Print charges are managed by our Computer Time and Print Manager. Please see our standard printing charges.


Can I upload my file, such as a resume, to a web site or email account?
Yes, from a removable storage device.


Can I download a file?
Yes, but software cannot be installed on the computers.
