Best of 2013: Cookbook Edition


The Best of 2013One of my very favorite things to check out of the library is new cookbooks. I will admit, I really like to look at the pictures and write down recipes, but I very rarely end up actually trying out any of the new recipes. The following were my favorite cookbooks from this year.

Get Healthy

Giada’s Feel Good Food by Giada de Laurentiis
Giada is my favorite chef. I got a chance to meet her at the American Library Association conference this year, and she is a lovely person. Also, her recipes are delicious! They tend to be fairly straightforward and do not require a million strange ingredients you will never use again. Also, unlike most cookbooks I check out, I’ve actually used her cookbooks in my kitchen and made some of the recipe.

Cooking a la Francais

The Little Paris Kitchen: 120 Simple but Classic French Recipes by Rachel Khoo
This was the most beautiful cookbook I saw all year. In addition to recipes, the book includes stunning photographs of Paris. I brought this book with me to a café and looked through it while eating a macaron, which then prompted an intense wave of nostalgia for my time in Paris.

Bake something delicious

Butter Baked Goods: Nostalgic Recipes from a Little Neighborhood Bakery by Rosie Daykin
I wanted to eat everything in this cookbook! I have also now added Butter Baked Goods & Café to the list of bakeries I must visit in my lifetime.

One Bowl Baking: Simple from Scratch Recipes for Delicious Desserts by Yvonne Ruperti
I wrote down a lot of recipes from this book and am actually fairly confident in my ability to make most of them. This is perfect for someone like me, who enjoys baking but has a very tiny kitchen and can only fit about one large mixing bowl on the countertop at a time!

Reflect on Food

Relish: My Life in the Kitchen by Lucy Knisley
This is actually a graphic novel memoir, but I am including it in this list because there are recipes in the book as well. If you have a tendency to connect moments in your life to the food you were eating at the time (GUILTY!), you’ll love this book!
