And the Academy Award Goes To…

Image of an Oscar award.I love awards season! I watch the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards, Emmy Awards, and the Academy Awards every year. I look forward to the red carpet fashion and interviews, the opening numbers, and the speeches. I love when they show little clips of the movies or TV shows as the nominees are being announced.

When I was a kid, I remember my parents always commenting during the “In Memoriam” piece, how they hadn’t realized this or that actor had passed away. I never really paid attention to this part much, since I had no idea who any of the actors were. Now I find myself recognizing more and more of the names, sad that these talented entertainers are no longer with us.

My 2012 Academy Award Picks

Even though no one in the movie business listens to my opinion, every year I make it a point to see as many of the nominees as possible before the shows and pick the people I want to win. Here are my “winners” for 2012:
• Best Picture: Midnight in Paris
• Best Actor: George Clooney, The Descendants
• Best Actress: Viola Davis, The Help
• Best Supporting Actor: Nick Nolte, Warrior
• Best Supporting Actress: Octavia Spencer, The Help
• Writing, Original Screenplay: Bridesmaids Written by Annie Mumolo & Kristen Wiig

Full Disclosure

I have not actually seen all of the nominated films yet and so picking my “winners” may be a bit premature. Here are a few of the movies I would still like to see, and some of them are coming soon to a library near you!
My Week with Marilyn
• The Artist
• Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
• War Horse
A Better Life
• Albert Nobbs
