Daytime Book Club
The Daytime Book Club meets the first Monday of the month at 10:00 AM.
Upcoming selections are:
August 4, 2014 - Invention Of Wings, by Sue Monk Kidd
The story follows Charleston slave Hetty 'Handful' Grimke and Sarah, daughter of the wealthy Grimke family. On Sarah's eleventh birthday, she recieves ownership of Handful, who is to be her handmaid. The story follows the next thirty-five years of their lives. Inspired by the historical figure of Sarah Grimke (a feminist, suffragist and abolitionist), Kidd goes beyond the record to flesh out the inner lives of the characters.
September 8, 2014 - Still Life With Bread Crumbs, by Anna Quindlen
Rebecca Winter is a once-famous New York Cith photographer whose work made her an unlikely heroine for many women. Her career and income flagging, she flees the city for the middle of nowhere. There she discovers, in a tree stand with a roofer named Jim Bates, that what she sees through a camera lens is not all there is to life.
