Life Too Short

I think Nancy Pearl (Book Lust, More Book Lust, etc.) recommends 100 pages for adults and 50 for kids (reading chapter books). But I'm like you. If I keep trying and keep reading something else because I just don't like a book, I quit. I won't read more than a few pages if I think it's poorly written. The exception being when I'm really interested in the subject. A book on traveling in Mongolia was like that. I kept saying, where was the editor?! Left in the dust? I must say that some books I really liked when I was younger, I don't want to read now. It depends on your stage of life as well as the book itself. An example is I and Thou, by Martin Buber.
