Psy’s “Gangnam Style” is an inescapable monster! Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past few months (which would be impressive…and dangerous), you’ve probably seen the video on YouTube, heard the song at a sporting event, or wondered why everyone around you was riding invisible horses. Psy has been everywhere, from teaching Britney Spears to dance on the Ellen DeGeneres show to dancing with MC Hammer at the American Music Awards.
Despite the complete oversaturation of this song, I’m inclined to say that it still kind of rules. Granted, my exposure has definitely been in moderation, but I have listened to this song numerous times and have yet to grow tired of it. My 3 year old daughter and I can frequently be found having Gangnam Style dance parties at our house. It was the highlight of a few recent birthday parties that we’ve attended and I overheard a group of tweens at a Halloween carnival giggle in amazement while saying, “that’s so cool they played Gangnam!”
Where’s the Breaking Point?
When will the world finally say “uhmm, yeah, that’s enough”? I don’t know, but it’s still going full steam. Gagnam Style has become the most watched video on YouTube, knocking Justin Bieber out of the top spot. The Guinness Book of World Records recently recognized it as the most liked video in YouTube history. Check out the Gangnam Style Wikipedia page for way more info than you ever thought you needed to know. Way more.
A Billion Views?
That’s a lot isn’t it? Indeed. At its current rate, it will hit one billion views easily. I first posted about it here, when it was only at 80 million views, which seemed incredible at the time.
PSY 6 (Six Rules), Part 1
Can’t get enough? You can borrow Psy’s most recent album, which features Gangnam Style, from the library. Of course, you can also watch the video on YouTube. Maybe you’ll be the billionth view! Maybe they’ll give out a prize for that sort of thing. Maybe shower you with virtual confetti and give you a voucher for a free toaster. Something like that.
