From the Web to the Moon

Photo of the Super Moon by Freedom II PhotographyDid you survive the super moon we had on March 19th? Well, if you're reading this, I guess you did!

Besides being a major astronomical event, the supermoon captured the hearts and minds of many a web-searcher, as the spike in search queries on the term "super moon" is indicated through Google Trends. For more on how to read the chart, just follow the Learn More link at the top of the page.

Super Moon or Green Lantern Ain't Got Nothing On Me!

Part of the increased search volume surely had to do with the dire warnings of severe weather or geological catastrophes, attributable to the astrologer Richard Nolle who coined the term "Super Moon" 30 years ago. For a full explanation of his defense, check out his recently updated site.

If you make it all the way through the article, be ready for some wicked inverted afterimages from the white text on the dark starfield background!!!

Scientists at NASA, however, assure us that we have nothing to worry about, and stick to the scientific descriptions of this special occurrence.

What About MY Moon?

If you missed the chance to howl at the moon on March 19th due to overcast weather (as I did), there's another one coming up on April 18th, according to Richard Nolle's calculations. If that's too long for you to wait, then perhaps you can enjoy some pictures of March's special moon as it appeared around the world, uploaded to FlickrFor more lunar information and fantastic images, check out Direct From the Moon, a National Geographic documentary.
