Matey and Me

I enjoyed researching and visiting the hidden treasures of San Mateo County over the past year, but since I just adopted a new dog in October, I thought it would be fun to write about discovering new places to play and visit with my dog in the San Mateo County and beyond.

I began searching out new adventures in the book The Dog Lover's Companion to the San Francisco Bay Area. Our first trip was to Big Sur, where I found the perfect cabin in the redwoods for me and my new companion, Matey. We spent three glorious nights by the fire, and four fun-filled days exploring the Big Sur and Carmel Coastline.

Tested Option

One thing that impressed me about the Rosehaven Cabins, where we stayed, were the reasonable rates. There was no extra charge for the dog, no additional fees or taxes of any kind. The two cabins are right in the middle of a 19 acre redwood forest, so if you are looking for total privacy, this is the place. The owners, Doug and Donna, are very friendly but unobtrusive, and there is a special feature to the bathrooms that you will have to discover on your own.

Check out The Dog Lover's Companion to the San Francisco Bay Area at the library for contact information on the cabins,as well as other animal friendly options, or go directly to Rose Haven Cabins and get all the information and pictures you need. I guarantee you won't be disappointed with what you find.

Visit our travel section for books and DVD's about wherever it is you are planning to visit. There are oftentimes music CD's also produced in the spirit of the area, as was the case with Big Sur. Visit Ely, NV for more information, and view more incredible photos of Zion National Park.
